Virginia Hoffman-Meketon has lived in Sarasota County for forty-two years. She considers Sarasota her hometown, but still has good memories of early life on the family farm in Montague, New Jersey. Montague was so rural that Virginia thought she was moving to the big city when the family resettled here in 1967.
A graduate of the Sarasota County Public Schools system, Virginia's love of art and music were nurtured by special arts programs offered at her schools.
Virginia made art and design her career after attending the University of South Florida in Tampa and completing a three-year program at The Ringling School of Art and Design. Her nearly 30-years experience as the sole proprietor of a successful business demonstrates her ability to initiate, create and complete projects.
Over the years, she has developed the ability to collaborate, negotiate and solve problems - skills required to be successful in business, and skills that can be applied to a position on the Charter Review Board.
"Everyone who works with me in my business offers advice and takes ownership in the end product. Collaboration produces the best results," she believes.
Virginia lives in Arlington Park with her second husband, Dr. Jerry Meketon, a retired clinical psychologist and Captain, U. S. Public Health Service. Jerry has two children from a previous marriage and three grandchildren. The house Virginia and Jerry renovated together appeared on Home and Garden television, and they share it with two "rescued" companions: Moses, a Maine Coon cat, and Chango, a Goffins Cockatoo.
In recent years, Virginia has assisted local candidates in their campaigns with the belief that the best way to effect positive change is to elect qualified leadership. This experience further broadened Virginia's understanding of the people who live and vote in Sarasota County. She has walked every corner of District 70, speaking directly with hundreds of citizens who love this community and care about its future.
